PHY Application Engineer

Product Applications Engineer (Ethernet PHY/Switch Products)

Leverage your background in hardware/software, systems, and technical applications engineering to provide support to Tier 1 customers designing products with Broadcom's PHYs and switches. You will become an expert in the architecture of our 100M / Multi Gig Ethernet copper PHYs and automotive switches, interfacing with customers and Field Applications Engineers to support pre‑sales activity and ensure successful product launches. Your role is to secure customer design wins and help bring products to market rapidly.

• Support architecture and low‑level hardware questions and issues
• Pre‑sales and post‑sales support via email, phone, and customer visits
• Documentation and product definition, roadmap, and design reviews
• Analyze customer architecture and requirements
• Debug hardware and software issues, board bring‑up, schematic and layout reviews
• Training customers and Field Applications Engineers
• Collaborate with internal teams:
  Hardware/Software Engineering, Architecture, FAE, Operations, Sales, Marketing, and senior management
• Travel to customer premises as needed

• BS, MS, or post‑graduate degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
• Minimum of 8+ years relevant experience with strong track record of success
• Experience in Applications Engineering: direct customer interaction, project/time management, multitasking, training, debugging, bring‑up, and support
• Strong knowledge of multi‑gig copper PHY, MII, Ser Des, and Ethernet standards; familiarity with PCIe, TSN, MACsec preferred
• Experience with SoC architecture, programming, or support; register‑level programming
• Practical knowledge of C, C++, Python, and Visual Basic for simple scripts
• Hardware/Ser Des or board experience, including signal integrity, PCB layout, and schematic review
• Experience with Ethernet traffic generators, high‑speed scope, jitter analyzer, spectrum analyzer, and network analyzer preferred
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills; teamwork and problem‑solving
• Foreign language fluency a plus

Bachelors in Engineering with 8+ years related experience or Masters with 6+ years. Postgraduate coursework may be desirable.

The annual base salary range for this position is $108,000–$172,800. Eligible for discretionary annual bonus and equity per plan documents. Comprehensive benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match, ESPP, EAP, paid holidays, sick leave, vacation, and paid family leave.
