Overview

WSP has an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled Senior Vice President, Mechanical Engineer with deep experience and expertise in the Property & Buildings Healthcare sector, based in Irvine, CA
. The role involves developing and growing relationships in the healthcare market, leading strategy, pursuits, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Business Development
  • Externally focused on business development, client outreach, and pursuit management.
  • Drive long‑term strategy, growth, and pipeline development of Mechanical Engineering work for WSP in the assigned area, focusing on infrastructure opportunities across all disciplines.
  • Communicate funnel information with the Marketing and Operations Teams.
  • Develop high‑level business contacts and a client base for mechanical engineering services, identifying additional opportunities and cross‑selling other WSP capabilities.
Leadership
  • Develop, coach, train, and value people.
  • Implement process changes.
  • Lead technical aspects of contract negotiation, presentations, and meetings.
  • Resource projects and coordinate with other offices and business lines for intercompany work.
  • Lead engineering discipline meetings and continuing educational opportunities, updating staff to foster innovation, development, and quality delivery.
  • Provide discipline leadership to multidisciplinary teams and high‑level strategic advice to clients.
  • Guide performance of managers and staff proactively.
  • Collaborate with various disciplines to provide future‑ready solutions for clients.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company resources and conduct in line with WSP’s Code of Conduct.
Technical
  • Provide technical assistance on mechanical, design, and construction issues related to automated temperature control, air distribution, hydronic, and plumbing systems.
  • Remain current with the latest mechanical engineering techniques and practices.
  • Serve as the discipline’s representative to external entities, including governmental agencies, clients, subcontractors, and industry groups.
  • Interpret and summarize data, reports, and documents for complex projects, delivering sound engineering and regulatory conclusions.
Project Management
  • Lead and deliver projects with accountability for profitability and successful completion within the specified area.
  • Provide senior leadership for proposals, work scopes, pricing, budgets, and performance metrics for the engineering discipline and contractor negotiations.
  • Oversee preliminary pricing development, risk analysis, and go/no‑go processes during proposal and scoping phases.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • 15+ years of post‑education experience in engineering, mechanical, and infrastructure design in the healthcare sector.
  • Engineer license required (multi‑state preferred).
  • Advanced proficiency with mechanical engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build, standards of care, and application to permitting and project work.
  • Extensive advanced proficiency in building and infrastructure design.
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant mechanical engineering and construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements.
  • Proven ability to establish, implement, and manage large‑scale discipline‑related programs, documents, and projects.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills; ability to manage staff and interact effectively with employees at all levels.
  • Strategic lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and prioritization in a pressure work environment.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from senior management, clients, and staff without formal hierarchy.
