Job Description & How to Apply Below
The Senior Electronic Technician supports engineering development activities through advanced troubleshooting, prototype assembly, testing, modification, and maintenance of electronic systems, assemblies, and laboratory equipment used in product development. This role performs complex technical work involving circuit-level diagnostics, board bring-up, instrumentation setup, failure analysis, and prototype support while partnering closely with engineers to support development priorities. The position requires strong technical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced engineering environment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
* Perform advanced troubleshooting, repair, testing, and validation of electronic assemblies, printed circuit boards, subassemblies, and prototype systems using schematics, technical documentation, and electronic test equipment.
* Perform precision hand soldering and rework of surface-mount (SMT) and through-hole components, including micro-pitch devices such as QFN, QFP, BGA, and 0201/01005 passive components.
* Use microscopes, magnifying tools and precision equipment to ensure accurate component placement and high-precision quality soldering results.
* Build, modify, rework, and assemble electronic prototypes, cables, fixtures, and test setups to support engineering development and verification activities.
* Conduct board-level diagnostics and failure analysis using oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, signal generators, and other laboratory instrumentation.
* Support prototype bring-up, debug activities, and engineering design modifications through component replacement, soldering, rework, and technical evaluation.
* Interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, bills of material, and engineering instructions to execute technical assignments accurately and efficiently.
* Partner closely with engineers to support product development activities, including prototype builds, testing, troubleshooting, and issue resolution.
* Assist with evaluation of components, materials, and assemblies during development and failure investigation activities.
* Document technical observations, test results, prototype changes, and repair activities in accordance with engineering procedures and quality requirements.
* Maintain laboratory equipment, tools, and work spaces to ensure safe, organized, and efficient operation of the electronics lab environment.
* Identify opportunities to improve lab processes, test methods, fixture setup, and technician workflows to support efficiency and reliability.
* Provide technical guidance and support to less experienced technicians as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
* 6+ years of progressively responsible experience in electronics technician, engineering lap support, prototype development, or related technical roles
* Strong hands-on experience troubleshooting analog and digital electronic circuits
* Advanced micro-soldering and rework skills, including surface-mount and through-hole components and fine-pitch electronic assemblies
* Proficiency using standard electronic lab instrumentation and diagnostic equipment
* Ability to perform precision component replacement and repair on PCB assemblies
* Ability to read and interpret schematics, technical drawings, bills of material, and engineering documentation
* Strong technical problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience supporting prototype development within medical device, regulated manufacturing, or other high-reliability product development environments
* Experience supporting failure analysis, component evaluation, and laboratory test setup activities
* Familiarity with engineering change processes, technical documentation requirements, and quality-driven product development environments
* Prior experience providing technical guidance or support to junior technicians
Education:
* Associate degree in Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related technical field required. Equivalent combination of technical training and relevant experience may be considered.
Language requirements:
* Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
* Ability to interpret technical documents, schematics, and written instructions
* Ability to clearly document technical findings and communicate with cross-functional team members
Compensation:
The anticipated hourly range for this position is $33/hr - $39/hr plus benefits. Actual placement within the range is dependent on multiple factors, including but not limited to skills, education, and experience.
