TAE is the world’s first private fusion energy company, founded in 1998 to commercialize the cleanest, safest, most affordable, and sustainable form of carbon‑free power. We are applying science and engineering to design transformational technologies. Whether it’s harnessing fusion through the science of stars, making exponential leaps in power efficiency, or innovating medical care with a novel cancer treatment, we’re turning the promise of science into reality.
We’re looking for candidates who are passionate about realizing our mission: A future where all people have affordable access to reliable, abundant, and environmentally friendly fusion‑generated electricity.
As a part of the TAE Beams group, the Accelerator Physicist will accept responsibilities to develop, commission, and operate components, subsystems, and complete particle accelerators for medical and industrial applications.
A successful candidate would have a strong background in physics and the technology of particle accelerators, nuclear physics, plasma physics, or a related field, coupled with solid experience in designing, manufacturing, and integrating the accelerators’ hardware, as well as in operating and troubleshooting particle accelerators.
AboutThe Role
- Work in close contact with engineering to conduct development of accelerator hardware, including accelerating structures, injectors, beamlines, targets, and beam diagnostic tools.
- Conduct necessary experiments, collect and interpret experimental results, and summarize the findings in reports.
- Perform simulations of physical processes related to the development of commercial accelerators: beam transport, heat transport, interaction of particles and radiation with matter, electromagnetic fields, nuclear processes and activation, pressure distribution and gas pumping, etc.
- Participate in integration and commissioning of the accelerators at customers’ sites. Operate particle accelerators and optimize their performance.
- Assist with troubleshooting and maintenance of the accelerator systems, interacting with quality and service engineers.
- Support manufacturing and procurement of the accelerators components as a subject matter expert.
- Write detailed specifications, standard operating procedures, and installation and commissioning manuals to support the engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams.
- Strong background in physics and the technology of particle accelerators and related fields.
- Hands‑on experience in design, troubleshooting, and safety of high‑voltage systems.
- Practical knowledge in methods of experimental physics, data acquisition and signal processing.
- Proven ability to use commercially available software for simulation of physical processes in particle accelerators.
- Strong understanding of monitoring, shielding, and safety aspects of work with ionizing radiation.
- Deep understanding of principles of quality management and familiarity with regulatory requirements for development of medical devices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to cooperate and communicate well with engineering, quality, manufacturing, procurement, and project management teams.
- Strong technical knowledge and aptitude to quickly understand systems and technical concepts.
- Proven decision‑making skills and ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision while maintaining a high level of efficiency.
- Ability to thrive in a challenging, dynamic environment. Must be flexible and quick to adapt to sudden changes and issues.
- Outstanding analytical and troubleshooting skills. Able to resolve conflict and drive issues to resolution.
- Detail oriented and organized with a strong discipline of adhering to standards.
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in designing and optimizing particle accelerator components and interfacing with engineering on fabrication of accelerator devices.
- Industrial experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with ISO quality systems is a plus.
- PhD in Physics, with a concentration on accelerator, nuclear or plasma physics or related…
