Interconnection Specialist
OverviewQcells Home Energy Solutions seeks an Interconnection Specialist to manage, coordinate, and oversee projects through administrative and specialized expertise with the Home Energy System division. As Interconnection Specialist, you will be responsible for submitting utility applications, rebate reservations, and SREC/VPP enrollment. Major responsibilities include submitting interconnection applications to utilities to obtain permission to operate (PTO), submitting rebate applications, monitoring a pipeline of projects for submittal, and maintaining updates in company system with key dates and document uploads.
Responsibilities- Review project requirements and determine the appropriate interconnection submission strategy, then prepare and submit applications to utility companies for residential solar projects
- Interpret utility and jurisdictional requirements to ensure application documentation meets compliance standards
- Identify recurring utility or program issues and exercise professional judgment to develop and recommend standardized workflows and best practices
- Document and refine utility and incentive program processes and serve as a subject‑matter resource for training and guidance
- Independently manage and maintain professional relationships with third‑party partners, including dealers, contractors, and utility personnel
- Provide guidance and partner with internal teams (engineering, design, permitting) to ensure projects are submitted accurately and timely
- Submit rebate and incentive applications to relevant agencies and programs (e.g., state, utility, or municipal)
- Evaluate risks to approval timelines, monitor application progress, and determine appropriate actions to support timely resolution
- Stay current on evolving incentive and interconnection rules, utility policies, and regulatory updates across applicable jurisdictions and assess business impact as needed
- Independently evaluate and resolve complex or non‑standard issues with utilities or rebate agencies, including situations where precedent or documented guidance may not exist
- Play a foundational role in establishing and scaling interconnection and incentive infrastructure as the business grows
- Provide training, mentorship, and ongoing support to new hires and team members as processes and team capacity expand
- Serve as a point of escalation and decision‑maker for complex interconnection and incentive matters requiring professional discretion
- Recommend and contribute to improvements in operational controls, documentation standards, and cross‑functional workflows to support scalability and compliance
- Develop subject‑matter expertise on the Qcells Q.Home battery system and Q.volt inverter for residential applications
- 3+ years of experience in the solar industry, energy sector, or a related field
- Familiarity with utility interconnection processes and rebate/incentive programs (California, Florida, and Texas experience preferred)
- Strong understanding of solar PV system components and installation workflows
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency in project tracking tools (e.g., Salesforce)
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents such as site plans, single‑line diagrams, and utility requirements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple applications and deadlines simultaneously
- Basic understanding of permitting processes and utility regulations
- Problem‑solving skills to resolve application issues with utilities or agencies
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) and PDF editing tools
- Self‑motivated and capable of working independently or in a team environment
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associate or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
