Position Summary
The Manufacturing Engineer II position identifies, develops, and implements continuous improvement in manufacturing processes in the department through the use of lean techniques. Able to review technical drawings and suggest improvements to reduce cost, rework, or scrap. This individual should be familiar with statistics and process control.
Responsibilities- Utilizes continuous improvement of manufacturing and business processes through the application of lean techniques:
Value Stream Mapping, 5S, work cells, pull systems, error-proofing, and visual management. - Analyzes and plans space requirements, workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
- Collaborates with design engineers concerning product design (DFM) and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
- Designs tooling and fixturing using Solid Works.
- Works with suppliers to determine product specifications, evaluate processes and capabilities, and train on lean techniques.
- Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
- Documents general manufacturing procedures and part-specific work instructions.
- Responsible for BOM coding (make or buy decisions and assign commodity codes).
- May be assigned to assist other departments.
- May require interaction with customers and suppliers.
- May be required to travel up to 20%.
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering.
- Must be able to obtain or have a current DoD Security Clearance.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of related experience and/or training.
- Must have 1-3 years of experience applying lean techniques.
- Expected to be a subject matter expert in one or more of the following disciplines:
- Hydraulics
- Refrigeration Systems
- Control Systems
- Machining/Fabrication Processes
- Will be called upon to train others.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Must be able to travel, if applicable.
- Position involves sitting, standing, and/or walking. Requires ability to frequently exert up to 10 pounds of force to move or lift objects and occasionally up to 40 pounds.
- May involve some lifting. Involves sitting at desk and reading computer screen. Requires close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Frequently requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.
- The employee may occasionally be required to stand, stoop, kneel, reach or walk. Requires ability to hear and speak clearly.
- Accountability to established schedules and/or time pressures required.
- Pay Range: $83,250 to $138,550 annually
