Role SummaryJoin a high‑functioning team where you’ll play a critical role in defining the performance of our products. You’ll work hands‑on in‑vehicle, calibrate and test against requirements, and from target setting to final validation, you’ll be fully responsible for a portion of vehicle performance. This role offers a unique opportunity to apply first principles thinking to solve complex control problems and to work on cutting‑edge propulsion and braking technologies.
You’ll collaborate across Software Controls and Chassis organizations, bringing teams together to solve engineering challenges, develop robust real‑time solutions, and make significant contributions to Rivian’s mission of creating innovative, efficient, and sustainable transportation systems.
Responsibilities- Own target setting, calibration and general development of the anti‑lock braking and electronic stability control systems for R2
- Work with brake suppliers to integrate their software with the Rivian software environment
- Evaluate vehicle performance to ensure it meets Rivian’s objectives and standards
- Provide feedback and direction to a team of calibration engineers; use data to correlate subjective evaluations and make data‑driven decisions
- Define and organize testing programs that provide detailed objective and subjective information to the rest of the organization
- Conduct and run performance tests, including coordination of tests, processing data and generating reports
- Instrument vehicles prior to testing and operate data acquisition systems
- Benchmark competitive vehicles, record relevant information and refine Rivian’s target metrics
- Help develop full‑vehicle simulation models
- Utilize simulation models to optimize the development of the vehicle platform by running “what‑if” scenarios based on dynamic performance
- Ensure system‑specific DVP meets program requirements and timelines
- B.S. degree (or higher) in Engineering (Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering)
- 5+ years experience in automotive development or a similar industry
- Experience obtaining vehicle data via CAN or XCP, analyzing data, correlating it with subjective evaluations, and using it to make actionable changes in calibration or software
- Deep knowledge of control systems, vehicle dynamics and brake systems
- Strong first‑principles background
- Ability to manage multiple projects in parallel and progress topics with little guidance; track record of delivering on‑time results
- Experience in C, C++, MATLAB, Python, Simulink;
Git Lab experience is a plus - Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to travel up to 50% during winter test seasons
The salary range for this role is $121,500‑$151,900 for Southern California based applicants. The range reflects the compensation the company would pay for this role at the time of posting and will be determined based on competencies, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, location, shift and organizational needs.
The successful candidate may be eligible for an annual performance bonus and equity awards.
