The Transmission Line Section Manager is responsible for leading the design and execution of high voltage transmission line projects up to 500 kV, working closely with the Project Manager to manage technical execution, client relationships, and business development.
Responsibilities- Partner with the Project Manager to align scope, schedule, budget and client management while handling technical execution of the project.
- Develop and implement the technical project execution plan.
- Assign project tasks and provide technical guidance to project team members.
- Participate in client development planning and execution, growing the Transmission practice through business development and strengthening client relationships.
- Support scope, schedule, and budget technical aspects including proposal development, work‑breakdown structure, progress and risk assessment, change and schedule management.
- Coordinate and perform quality checks and reviews for all project deliverables in accordance with HDR Quality Management System (QMS) requirements.
- Provide independent technical oversight and may mentor, train, or supervise one or more Project Engineers, EITs, or CADD/Designers.
- Lead multiple concurrent projects, utilizing teams in different locations.
- Collaborate with senior engineers and technical leaders to develop specific technical expertise, attending training and seminars as needed.
- Assist with developing technical papers and/or presentations that showcase HDR’s technical capabilities at industry conferences or other events.
- Participate in project reviews as required.
- BS degree in Engineering.
- PE license.
- 10+ years of technical transmission line experience up to 500 kV, including conceptual knowledge of routing, environmental permitting, right‑of‑way acquisition, PLS‑CADD modeling, steel and wood structure design, foundation design, material procurement, specifications, and construction support.
- Experience with distribution line design and/or steel lattice tower modeling and design.
- A strong track record of growing a Transmission practice and developing client relationships.
- Successful collaboration with diverse teams, regional, departmental, technical managers and project staff.
- Experience using industry‑standard design software.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and conferencing platforms (Zoom, Web Ex, Teams, etc.).
- Self‑starter with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong conceptual, organizational, problem‑solving, and collaboration skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Previous consulting firm experience desirable.

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience.
- Professional registration, license or certification may be required based on role.
- Strong communication and listening skills.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments.
- Good leadership and organizational skills.

Compensation range:
Irvine and Los Angeles, CA: $137,000 - $196,000 (based on skills, experience, education and location). Full‑time regular position with a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, an employee assistance program, paid time away, parental leave, paid holidays, a retirement savings plan with employer match, employee referral bonus, and tuition reimbursement.
