Role Overview

EKN Engineering is a fast‑growing civil engineering and technology consulting company located in Irvine, CA. To hit our growth goals, we are in search of an Engineering Project Assistant to add to our outstanding team. At EKN, Engineering Project Assistants are responsible for reviewing and analyzing engineering calculations, drawings, tables, and documents along with reviewing and creating analysis reports. This role will require one to have strong attention to detail and a consistent strive for accuracy.

In addition, the ideal candidate will have a high level of organization, as well as strong communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate electrical transmission line structures using a combination of inspection data, engineering records, and field observations to determine structural condition and performance
  • Analyze data from geotechnical reports, topographic/geographic information, historical work records, drone imagery, LiDAR, and climbing inspections to support engineering evaluations
  • Assist in identifying deficiencies and risk factors; contribute to recommended action plans such as repair or replacement
  • Work with engineers to perform basic structural checks and preliminary engineering analyses using applicable codes, standards, and internal methodologies
  • Review findings from field inspections, including drone surveys and hands‑on climbing inspections, ensuring data quality and completeness
  • Compile assessment reports and client deliverables, clearly documenting findings, assumptions, and recommended next steps
  • Organize and update asset databases, inspection records, and project files to ensure traceability and accessibility of assessment data
  • Collaborate with structural engineers, corrosion engineers, GIS specialists, and project managers to support integrated project delivery
  • Support scheduling, tracking, and coordination of tower assessment projects to ensure timelines and deliverables are met
  • Follow applicable industry standards, client requirements, and safety protocols when performing assessments
  • Analyze digital and handwritten tables, documents, and images
  • Analyze engineering documents and verify compliance with established standards and procedures
Required Qualifications
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office:
    Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook
  • Exhibit a process‑oriented mindset
  • Must be detail oriented
  • Ability to multitask with strong organization skills
  • Must have excellent written/verbal communication
  • Responsibility and ownership of projects
  • Prior experience with data management
Preferred Skills
  • BS degree in electrical or civil engineering, or related technical discipline
  • 2-3 years of relative experience in civil engineering
  • AutoCAD/PLS‑CADD experience a plus
