Transmission Line Section Manager

Responsibilities

• Develop partnership with the PM to coordinate technical execution of high‑voltage transmission line projects up to 500 kV.
• Develop and implement a project execution plan for the technical aspects of projects.
• Assign project tasks and provide technical guidance to project team members.
• Participate in client development planning and execution; grow HDR’s Transmission practice through business development and strengthening client relationships.
• Support the technical aspects of scope, schedule, and budget, including proposal development, work‑breakdown‑structure development, progress assessment, risk assessment/mitigation, change management, and schedule management.
• Coordinate and/or perform quality checks and reviews for all project deliverables per HDR Quality Management System (QMS) requirements, processes, and procedures; review projects from other teams as needed.
• Work independently; may direct, mentor, train, and/or supervise one or more Project Engineers, EITs, or CADD/Designers.
• Lead multiple projects concurrently, utilizing teams in different locations.
• Work with senior engineers and technical leaders to identify and develop specific technical expertise and attend training and seminars focused on further development.
• Assist with developing technical papers and/or presentations that showcase HDR’s technical capabilities at industry conferences or other events.
• Participate in project reviews as needed.

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in high‑voltage transmission line engineering.
• Professional registration, license or certification may be required based on role.
• Strong communication and listening skills.
• Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
• Good leadership and organizational skills.

• BS degree in Engineering.
• PE license.
• 10+ years of technical transmission line experience up to 500 kV, including conceptual knowledge of routing, environmental permitting, right‑of‑way acquisition, PLS‑CADD modeling, steel and wood structure design, foundation design, material procurement, specifications, and construction support.
• Distribution line design and/or steel lattice tower modeling and design experience a plus.
• Strong track record of growing a Transmission practice and developing client relationships.
• Track record of working cooperatively with diverse teams, regions, departments, technical managers, and project staff.
• Experience using industry standard design software.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and conferencing platforms (Zoom, Web Ex, Teams).
• Self‑starter with strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong conceptual, organizational, problem‑solving, and collaboration skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Previous consulting firm experience desired.
• Some travel may be required.

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.

Irvine, Los Angeles: $137,000 - $196,000.
