Senior Mechanical Engineer – Property & Buildings

Irvine, CA

Overview

WSP is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Property & Buildings team in Irvine, CA. The role is ideal for a motivated engineer who brings experience across sectors, including commercial, higher education, multi‑family residential, and civic projects, and who wants to grow within a collaborative, design‑focused environment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform mechanical engineering design and technical delivery across a diverse portfolio including commercial, higher education, multi‑family residential, and civic projects
  • Support design of HVAC, air distribution, hydronic, and building systems
  • Participate in the full project lifecycle, from concept development through construction and close‑out
  • Analyze and interpret data from site conditions, drawings, and technical documents to support engineering solutions
  • Prepare and contribute to technical reports, specifications, and design documentation
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and sector‑specific requirements, including healthcare environments
  • Collaborate with multi‑disciplinary teams to deliver integrated project solutions
  • Support client interactions and project meetings, building strong working relationships
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to team development
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in mechanical design for building systems
  • Experience supporting projects across commercial, higher education, and multi‑family residential and civic projects
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems and mechanical design principles
  • Experience supporting projects from design through construction
  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and related engineering tools
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or on‑track to obtain
  • Experience working on complex commercial, higher education, and multi‑family residential and civic projects
  • Familiarity with California codes and local jurisdiction requirements
  • Experience working with multi‑disciplinary engineering teams
  • LEED AP or sustainability credentials

Compensation

Expected Salary: $107,500 - $156,600. The range is based on location, experience, and other factors.
