Position Overview
Maintenance Service Manager – Responsible for coordination of maintenance, repair and replacement (MR&R) activities for central utility plant and campus‑wide distribution systems and controls including heating hot water and chilled water. Fully onsite, First Shift Monday thru Friday at CSU Fresno, CA 5241 N Maple Ave, Fresno, CA 93740.
Responsibilities- Act as primary point of contact for all MR&R activities within scope.
- Coordinate daily, weekly and long‑term maintenance activities with the customer ensuring alignment with campus priorities, outage planning and operational constraints.
- Lead site meetings and planning sessions; assist with annual budgeting for MR&R activities and spare parts.
- Manage subcontractors performing maintenance, repair and replacement work; develop scopes of work, review proposals and support procurement processes.
- Track contractor performance, safety compliance and schedule adherence; ensure quality of work and maintain proper documentation.
- Plan and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance programs; prepare and submit monthly and annual plans.
- Prioritize and manage backlog of maintenance and repair activities; coordinate major equipment repairs and replacement efforts.
- Ensure system reliability for central plant equipment and distribution systems.
- Primarily onsite at central utility plant environment; may require off‑hours coordination for outages or critical work, interaction with mechanical systems, construction activities and active campus operations.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 5+ years of experience in central plant operations, O&M, facilities management and controls systems.
- 2+ years of experience managing subcontractors and vendors in an industrial or campus environment.
- Ability to pass federal/state background checks and drug screening.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
- Ability to lift to 50 lbs. frequently and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management or related field (or equivalent).
- Strong understanding of chilled water and heating hot water systems.
- Experience coordinating work in an active, mission‑critical environment.
- Strong communication and customer‑facing skills.
- Experience in higher education or campus utility systems.
- Familiarity with building automation systems (BAS) platforms.
- Familiarity with electrical distribution systems (switch gear, transformers, etc.).
- Background in mechanical systems (chillers, boilers, hydronic systems).
- OSHA training or safety certifications.
- Leadership and accountability in contractor management and coordination.
- Operational planning and prioritization.
- Customer relationship management.
- Problem‑solving in complex systems.
Annual salary $79,000.00 – $, depending on skills, education, experience and other qualifications.
