Hydrographic Surveyor

We are looking for an experienced Hydrographic Surveyor to support operational and QA processes. The role involves conducting precise underwater mapping and bathymetric surveys across UK waters using multibeam echo sounders, side‑scan sonar, and other advanced survey instruments. You will deliver critical marine survey data that supports infrastructure development and maritime navigation projects.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct Hydrographic Surveys
    :
    Plan and execute high‑resolution surveys across diverse environments.
  • Operate Advanced Survey Equipment
    :
    Use and maintain multibeam and single‑beam echo sounders, side‑scan sonar, magnetometers, and GNSS systems.
  • Data Processing and Analysis
    :
    Process and analyse hydrographic data with industry‑standard software.
  • Report Preparation
    :
    Generate comprehensive reports, charts, and visualisations that meet client specifications and international standards.
  • Quality Assurance
    :
    Implement QA procedures to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
  • Project Management
    :
    Assist in planning and coordinating survey projects, including resource allocation and scheduling.
  • Team Collaboration
    :
    Work with multidisciplinary teams to integrate hydrographic data into broader project frameworks.
  • Equipment Maintenance
    :
    Ensure all equipment is properly maintained, calibrated and ready for deployment.
  • Health and Safety Compliance
    :
    Adhere to all health, safety and environmental regulations.
  • Continuous Improvement
    :
    Keep up‑to‑date with technological advancements and contribute to methodological improvements.
Qualifications
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Hydrography, Geomatics, Marine Science or a related discipline; recent graduates with relevant training are welcome.
  • Experience with hydrographic acquisition and processing software (e.g. QPS QINSy, Qimera, Hypack, EIVA Navi Suite, Sonar Wiz).
  • Working knowledge of multibeam and single‑beam bathymetry, and familiarity with side‑scan sonar, magnetometers or LiDAR is an advantage.
  • Basic skills in CAD and/or GIS software (AutoCAD, QGIS, ArcGIS).
  • Some practical industry experience in hydrographic or geophysical surveying.
  • Enthusiastic, willing to learn new techniques and take initiative in field and office tasks.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Willing and able to travel and stay away from home for site work, sometimes at short notice.
  • Comfortable working aboard survey vessels; RYA Powerboat Level 2 or willingness to obtain is advantageous.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration in a dynamic team environment.
