Plan Engineer

Plan Check Engineer – Harris & Associates is a 100% employee-owned firm focused on planning, designing, and constructing public infrastructure. We serve municipal, water, transportation, and education projects to build equitable, resilient, and sustainable communities. The team spans the West Coast with offices and project sites in California, Nevada, and Washington.

Harris is seeking a Part-Time to Full-Time Plan Check Engineer to join the Municipal team in southern California. This staff augmentation role can be performed remotely or at a client office with Municipal Agency staff.

• Work independently with limited supervision and exercise judgment to achieve project objectives
• Review municipal reference documents in conjunction with project plans and specifications
• Collaborate with municipal staff as needed and interface with Agency staff, inspectors, developers, engineers, and the public
• Evaluate plans for constructability, maintainability, and operability
• Check accuracy of design against Agency guidelines, standards, specifications, and checklists
• Review development improvement plans (grading, street, storm drain/hydrology, water, recycled water, and sewer) for submittals
• Track project budgets and prepare construction cost estimates
• Monitor milestones through plan check and construction cycles
• Conduct site visits and meetings with applicants as needed
• Prioritize tasks to meet tight deadlines and coordinate schedules across multiple projects

• College degree in Civil Engineering required
• Professional Engineer license preferred
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant civil engineering, plan check, or pipeline design experience preferred

Hourly rate offered: $54–$68/hr actual pay depends on experience and qualifications.
