Insight Global is hiring a Magnetic Motor Design Manager to lead the development of advanced electric motor systems for a highly specialized engineering environment. This role blends deep technical expertise in electromagnetics with hands‑on leadership, owning motor design from concept through production while managing a team of engineers and interfacing with cross‑functional partners and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership- Serve as the subject matter expert for electromagnetic design and motor architecture
- Lead magnetic circuit design, material selection (including permanent magnets and soft magnetic materials), and performance optimization
- Define and implement motor design standards, simulation methodologies, and validation processes
- Translate technical requirements into scalable, manufacturable designs
- Partner with mechanical, thermal, controls, and power electronics teams to ensure system‑level performance
- Develop motor models, performance data, and characterization reports to support system simulation
- Communicate technical tradeoffs, risks, and design decisions to leadership and external stakeholders
- Lead design reviews and customer‑facing technical discussions
- Ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability and cost efficiency
- Collaborate with suppliers and production teams on materials, processes, and component sourcing
- Support production transition, supplier qualification, and continuous improvement efforts
- Define and oversee motor testing including dynamometer, thermal, and lifecycle validation
- Lead root cause analysis and ensure alignment between simulation and test results
- Support qualification efforts aligned with industry standards
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers, driving technical growth and performance
- Oversee design reviews, configuration management, and change control processes
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with technical requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field (Master’s or PhD preferred)
- 10+ years of experience in electric motor design or electromagnetic systems
- 4+ years of leadership or people management experience
- Hands‑on experience with motor design tools such as ANSYS Maxwell, Motor‑CAD, JMAG, or Flux
- Strong understanding of electromagnetic theory, magnetic materials, and motor performance optimization
- Experience designing motors for high‑performance applications and transitioning designs to production
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes including winding, magnetization, and assembly techniques
- Experience with motor testing, validation, and performance characterization
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience in aerospace, electric vehicles, defense, or industrial motor applications
- Knowledge of high-speed or high power density motor design
- Experience with multi-physics simulation (thermal, electromagnetic, mechanical)
- Familiarity with advanced motor control techniques (e.g., field-oriented control)
- Background in regulated or highly reliable systems
