Job DescriptionCDM Smith is looking for an Automation (Instrumentation & Controls) Engineer to join our Irvine, CA office in 2027! You'll be working with a dynamic team of industry leading engineers on a diverse portfolio of public, federal, and industrial projects.
CDM Smith’s Automation and Instrumentation division consists of staff of various disciplines including process, chemical, and electrical engineering which allows us to bring a wide range of knowledge to each project.
Our services include: SCADA System Design Instrumentation Design 3D/4D P& Creation Process Design and Optimization Control Network Design Wired and Wireless Communication Security System Design Legacy System Replacement
In this role you would perform a variety of tasks including:
- Under direct supervision, creates basic instrumentation, controls and related systems designs using 3D and 4D drafting programs.
- Reviews simple component level shop drawings.
- Creates basic human-machine interface (HMI) designs, programmable logic controllers (PLC), reports, etc.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Assists with testing and startup of instrumentation, controls and related systems.
Basic knowledge of instrumentation, controls and related systems designs. Good communication skills. Basic knowledge of Microsoft office suite of programs. moderate knowledge of 3D and 4D CAD drafting.
QualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or in Engineering Technology or related discipline. 0 years. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
