Financial Manager, CFO
Reporting to the CFO, the Controller provides strategic and operational leadership for accounting, finance operations, reporting, and compliance. This role is a key business partner to senior leadership and operations leaders, helping drive financial health, operational performance, and scalable financial processes.
The Controller leads day-to-day accounting and finance activities—including close, reporting, treasury/cash management, tax coordination, audit support, payroll oversight, and risk/control functions—for an organization with annual revenue exceeding $100M. The role manages and develops a team of six or more professionals and ensures strong controls, accurate financial statements, effective cash flow management, and well-integrated financial support for operations.
This is a highly collaborative role that requires the ability to educate non-finance stakeholders, improve cross-functional workflows, and strengthen alignment across Finance, Operations, HR, IT, and related groups.
Key Responsibilities Financial & Operational Leadership- Oversee general ledger, accounting operations, and reporting processes in accordance with applicable standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain strong internal controls and safeguards for the receipt, management, and disbursement of funds.
- Coordinate and manage the annual financial statement audit process, including external auditor relationships and deliverables.
- Produce timely, accurate monthly and annual financial statements; clearly communicate results, trends, and risks to executive leadership.
- Lead or co-lead the annual budgeting process; monitor performance against budget and drive variance analysis and corrective action.
- Oversee job cost/project accounting to ensure revenues and expenses are accurately captured and aligned to specific jobs/projects.
- Manage cash flow forecasting in partnership with operations and department leaders; optimize working capital and liquidity planning.
- Ensure accurate accounting for fixed assets, including acquisitions, depreciation, and disposals.
- Assess current team strengths, clarify responsibilities, and implement training and development plans to elevate performance.
- Strengthen internal communication and collaboration across teams and levels; foster a supportive, accountable environment.
- Partner closely with Operations leaders to support project performance, forecasting accuracy, and decision-making.
- Collaborate with HR, IT, and other functional leaders to improve systems integration, process efficiency, and data integrity across business functions.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, including leadership responsibility.
- Background ideally includes early career experience in accounting/audit, followed by building and leading teams.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare, analyze, and present financial information to executive leadership and external stakeholders.
- Experience in job cost or project-based accounting environments (high volume and varied project sizes strongly preferred).
- Strong working knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting/forecasting, A/P, A/R, G/L, payroll oversight, and treasury/cash management.
- Systems experience with ERP/accounting platforms (Microsoft Dynamics/Great Plains or similar); payroll/HRIS and CRM exposure is a plus.
- Highly developed analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to translate financial concepts for both finance and non-finance audiences.
- High integrity, sound judgment, and a proactive, hands-on leadership style.
- Bachelor’s degree required; CPA and/or MBA strongly preferred.
- Ability to support initiatives and processes in compliance with U.S. export control regulations, as applicable to the business.
