Staff Accountant

Overview

Our client is a fast-growing recycling and materials technology company in Nashville that’s changing how waste gets sorted, recovered, and turned into value. Think advanced sorting systems, proprietary technology, and a company scaling fast enough that the finance function is being built alongside the business — not bolted on after the fact. This role reports directly to the Controller and puts you at the center of a lean, high-impact finance team.

This is a full-cycle accounting role with a twist: you’ll also get your hands into process improvement, financial analysis, and cross-functional problem solving.

• Own month-end close — journal entries, reconciliations, and subsidiary financial statement prep. You’ll know these numbers cold.
• Drive financial visibility — build and maintain reports that leadership actually uses to make decisions. Analyze trends, costs, revenue, and commitments.
• Support budgeting and planning — work side-by-side with the Controller on the company’s budget, forecasts, and financial strategy.
• Manage intercompany accounting — maintain balances and reconciliations with the parent entity.
• Handle fixed assets — maintain records for a growing asset base across multiple operations.
• Be the backup the team needs — cross-train on cost reporting, multi-state sales tax filings, inventory control, and ERP system maintenance.
• Support audit readiness — year-end, bank, and regulatory audits won’t be a fire drill because you’ll help keep things clean all year.
• Contribute to ERP evolution — participate in system implementation and optimization as the company scales its tech stack.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (CMA a plus)
• 3+ years of full-cycle accounting experience in manufacturing, construction, or job-costing environments
• Hands-on ERP experience — you’ve generated and analyzed financials inside a system, not just in Excel
• Advanced Excel skills — pivot tables, lookups, and modeling are second nature
• Strong communicator who can translate numbers into insight for non-finance stakeholders
• A self-starter who thrives in a smaller team where ownership is the expectation, not the exception

Salary/Rate Range: $65,000.00 – $80,000.00
