Location: Irvine, CA (Hybrid – 1 day remote once ramped)
Assignment Type: Permanent Hire
Compensation: $110000 – $125000 / Year
Work Schedule: M–F 9–5

Job Description:We are seeking a hands‑on Payroll Manager to lead and oversee full‑cycle payroll operations while managing payroll accounting functions and developing team structure and internal controls. This role is responsible for executing payroll processing, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and maintaining accurate payroll‑related financial reporting across multiple entities and locations.
The Payroll Manager will supervise payroll staff, establish departmental goals and controls, and serve as a subject‑matter expert on payroll administration, wage and hour laws, and payroll tax compliance. This individual will partner closely with HR, Finance, Accounting, and other internal stakeholders to ensure payroll processes are timely, accurate, and aligned with organizational objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage end‑to‑end payroll processing, including bi‑weekly payroll, tax filings, year‑end reporting, garnishments, and benefit deductions
- Oversee payroll system administration, compliance, and internal controls
- Supervise, mentor, and develop payroll team members, including performance management and training
- Review and reconcile payroll data, ensuring accuracy of earnings, deductions, and tax with holdings
- Approve and post payroll‑related journal entries and ensure timely month‑end close activities
- Reconcile payroll‑related balance sheet accounts and support financial reporting requirements
- Analyze labor costs, headcount changes, and wage variances to support budgeting and forecasting efforts
- Generate payroll and labor reports to support leadership decision‑making
- Support internal and external audit requests related to payroll and labor
- Drive process improvements, system enhancements, and efficiencies within payroll operations
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5–10 years of progressive payroll experience, including payroll accounting responsibilities
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of payroll compliance, payroll tax regulations, general ledger postings, and reconciliations
- Experience with enterprise payroll and timekeeping systems
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining strict confidentiality
