Our large Distribution client is searching for an accounting and finance leader to lead all accounting and financial reporting functions across the organization. This individual will be a strategic, right-hand partner to the CFO and oversee accounting operations across a multi-location distribution environment. Their ideal candidate must have a CPA license and progressive accounting leadership experience in an inventory environment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership for all accounting, financial reporting, treasury, and finance operations across a multi-location distribution organization.
  • Direct the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant financial reporting.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, long‑range planning initiatives, forecasting activities, and cash flow management to support organizational growth objectives.
  • Partner closely with executive leadership to develop financial strategies that drive profitability, operational efficiency, and scalable growth.
  • Oversee the preparation, analysis, and presentation of financial statements, management reporting packages, board‑level reporting, and key business performance metrics.
  • Establish, maintain, and enhance internal controls, accounting policies, and financial governance practices to ensure compliance and mitigate risk.
  • Manage all general accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and inventory accounting.
  • Analyze inventory performance metrics, including inventory turns, aging, excess and obsolete inventory, and Days Inventory Outstanding (DIO), while partnering with operations to optimize working capital.
  • Collaborate with operational and commercial leaders to provide financial insights related to purchasing, distribution, branch performance, pricing strategies, and margin improvement initiatives.
  • Lead financial planning and analysis efforts, including variance analysis, profitability reporting, scenario modeling, and business performance reviews.
  • Evaluate and improve financial processes, reporting capabilities, and system functionality through automation, standardization, and technology enhancements.
  • Provide leadership in ERP optimization efforts, ensuring financial systems support operational scalability and reporting accuracy.
  • Manage banking relationships, cash management strategies, debt compliance, insurance programs, and other financial partnerships.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, tax advisors, lenders, and other professional service providers.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, applicable regulatory requirements, and company policies across all accounting and financial activities.
  • Support acquisition due diligence, integration initiatives, and other strategic corporate development activities as applicable.
  • Develop and mentor a high‑performing accounting and finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional development.
  • Monitor key financial and operational metrics, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities while providing actionable recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Drive initiatives focused on improving working capital, strengthening cash flow, enhancing profitability, and maximizing return on invested capital.
  • Lead the development of financial dashboards and executive reporting tools that provide real‑time visibility into business performance.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the executive team by delivering data‑driven insights and recommendations that support critical business decisions.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related degree. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Progressive accounting leadership experience is required.
  • CPA license is required.
  • Large Company experience ($1B+) is highly desired.
  • Knowledge of major accounting software packages for general ledger accounting.
  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams, business leaders, and external agencies to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving, and results.
