Overview
UC Irvine's Division of Hematology and Oncology at the School of Medicine is seeking a Physician Assistant (PA) in the Department of Medicine, Hematology/Oncology Division. The PA will participate in comprehensive care of patients in ambulatory and/or infusion center settings, provide multi-disciplinary care coordination, education, monitoring, and communication with patients and referring physicians. The PA is an APP who possesses the advanced education, knowledge, clinical skills and experience necessary to provide advanced care in their area of specialization.
Responsibilities- Function within their scope of practice, including management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute/critical care, and relevant procedures per the approved Practice Agreement; familiar with state licensure statutes.
- Provide patient care within age groups appropriate to educational preparation and licensure across Health licensed settings and affiliates.
- Be accountable for standards of care for their patient population and contribute to quality of care and role development within all Health locations and affiliates.
- Credentialing and privileges must be completed prior to the first working day; APRs must be credentialed to practice and privileged through Medical Staff.
- Collaborate with supervising physicians/designees in the same clinical specialty and with Administrative Manager for feedback and evaluation.
Population served:
Adult and/or Adolescent/Young Adult (AYA).
- Clear understanding of core internal medicine, hematology and oncology principles.
- Strong history-taking, physical examination, and clinical assessment skills.
- Experience with chemotherapy and oncology protocols; direct patient care for chemotherapy side effects; patient and staff education on chemotherapy and cancer information.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships across the program and Health System; diplomacy and flexibility in interaction with physicians, nurses, and other staff.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to prepare medical reports, lab data and progress notes; maintain appropriate work pace.
- Trained in use of specialized medical equipment and procedures; adheres to privacy and PHI policies.
- Education:
PA program accredited by ARC-PA;
California PA licensure; valid NPI; DEA registration (Schedules 2-5); BLS and ACLS. - Experience:
Hematology/Oncology and Infusion Center experience (2+ years); working with hematology/oncology patients and modality treatment plans. - Ability to work with patients in various treatment plans, including single and combined modalities.
Preferred
- Experience with early phase clinical trials and sub-investigator responsibilities.
Special Conditions
- Documentation of care provided in the past 24 months, representative of privileges requested; ability to obtain UCIMC Allied Health Professional Privileges prior to hire.
