Job Description

Pharmacy Intern position at Walgreens provides hands‑on experience in pharmacy operations while learning to deliver exceptional care. Applicant will assist pharmacists, engage customers, and maintain compliance with state, federal, and company regulations.

• Learn to provide the best patient experience through assisting the pharmacist and pharmacy team members in accordance with state and federal regulations.
• Responsible for using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
• Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience.
• Learn and champion pharmacy policy, procedures, and customer service best practices needed to perform as a future pharmacist.

• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive experience.
• Model and share customer service best practices with all team members to deliver a distinctive and delightful experience, including interpersonal habits (e.g., greeting, eye contact, courtesy) and Walgreens service traits (e.g., offering help proactively, identifying needs, servicing until satisfied).
• Develop strong relationships with customers.

• Learn from store and pharmacy team members, field leadership, and customers/patients.
• Under the supervision of the pharmacist, assist in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state, federal, and company policy. Review and comply with the Walgreens Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
• Perform duties as assigned and supervised by the pharmacist in accordance with Walgreens standard operating procedures for entering, third‑party processing, filling, and dispensing prescriptions.
• Assist pharmacists and other healthcare providers in delivering patient care and services within the state scope of practice for pharmacy interns, including patient counseling and other health services (e.g., blood pressure, medication therapy management).
• Immediately report prescription errors to pharmacist on duty and adhere to company policies and the Quality Improvement Program regarding pharmacy errors.
• Strictly adhere to the Walgreens policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing.
• Register all related sales on the assigned cash register, collect and handle cash as required, and assist customers to the OTC aisle when appropriate.
• Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention, including calls to physicians.
• Assist and support inventory management activities: ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing shipment of pharmaceuticals; maintain knowledge of asset protection; file claims for overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged goods.
• Assist with exterior and interior maintenance to keep the Pharmacy Department stocked, clean, neat, and orderly.
• Comply with all company policies and procedures; maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
• Complete special assignments and tasks as assigned.

• Complete required training.
• Maintain knowledge and skill in healthcare and pharmacy, including latest news and developments.

The current salary range is $16.50–$25.00 per hour. The actual hourly salary will depend on geography, skills, experience, and other factors.
