Data Steward

Candidates must be eligible to work on Ascendum's W2. We CANNOT accept C2C or 1099 candidates for this role.

• Review and validate Microsoft Purview scan results for PII/PHI across prioritized production databases
• Manually confirm accuracy of classifications by querying source systems (SQL)
• Identify false positives, false negatives, and classification gaps
• Apply defined rules and patterns consistently to establish a known-good baseline
• Compare scan outputs against validated results to determine accuracy levels
• Document validated findings and exceptions clearly for downstream remediation teams
• Contribute to a prioritized backlog of classification improvements and rule enhancements
• Support creation of repeatable validation artifacts used for audit and MMC responses

• Operate within defined data governance policies, stewardship guidelines, and escalation paths
• Work closely with existing Data Stewards, Governance leads, DBAs, and Security teams
• Participate in sprint-based execution (Jira) and regular working sessions
• Provide transparent status updates on progress, risks, and blockers

• Strong SQL skills (querying, filtering, validating data across schemas and databases)
• Experience working with relational databases (SQL Server preferred)
• Ability to analyze large datasets using SQL, spreadsheets, or Python
• Familiarity with data classification concepts (PII, PHI, sensitive data types)
• Experience working with data quality tools like Purview or Privasera
