Responsibilities
Under the close supervision of the Supervisor, Production and Data Center Operations, the Data Center Technician applies basic IT professional concepts, working experience, OIT, UCI, and Data Center Operations policies/procedures to plan, troubleshoot, and execute a variety of low‑complexity to moderately complex issues in the Data Center. Works on problems of limited scope. Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained.
Plans and executes device installations, colocation onboarding, facilitates and manages environmental monitoring, maintains inventory and capacity planning in our Sunbird Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) tool for DC Ops‑managed sites. Works with student workers and junior staff to plan and complete small projects and keep Data Center facility infrastructure and devices maintained and updated. Acts as a point of contact for data center facility matters, remote hands and location tasks, data destruction and salvage matters, and DCIM Subject Matter Expert (SME).
Coordinates as liaison to Colocation customers and Facilities Management.
- Basic knowledge of several areas of IT.
- Demonstrated ability to install software and troubleshoot basic problems with computing devices, peripherals and software. Basic understanding of system performance monitoring and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.
- Basic knowledge of computer security best practices and policies. Ability to put knowledge into practice.
- Ability to write technical documentation in a clear and concise manner.
- Interpersonal skills sufficient to work with both technical and non‑technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non‑technical information in a clear and concise manner. Ability to work as part of a team.
- Self‑motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Demonstrates problem‑solving skills. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
- Basic knowledge and proven work experience with the use of Microsoft office products.

- Less than 1 year of experience in data center operations.
Driver’s License:
- Required to hold a valid drivers license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.
Preferred:
- Basic knowledge relating to the design and development of software.
- Basic understanding of data management operations and database administration.
- Working knowledge of Sunbird (or comparable) DCIM tool for asset management and capacity planning.
- Basic knowledge of HVAC and power distribution within a data center.
- Demonstrated experience racking and stacking computer equipment.
Special
Conditions:
- May be required to work overtime, as needed.
- May require on‑call coverage, as needed.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $26.53–$31.13 (Hourly).
