The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is responsible for supporting the IT needs of UC Irvine faculty, students, and staff. Our mission is to provide information technology leadership, services, and innovative solutions to promote the research, education, and community service goals of the University. The Telecommunications team is responsible for providing telephone service and support to the UC Irvine campus.
ResponsibilitiesUnder the general supervision of the Manager, Telecom Engineers and Field Technicians, the Telecommunications Administrator applies skills as a seasoned, experienced communications professional with a full understanding of industry practices and relevant policies and procedures and solid telecommunications knowledge and experience to support, administer, maintain, and enhance UC Irvine’s enterprise communications services. Provides telephone, voicemail, ACD/call centre, automated attendant, and 911 services to UCI Irvine faculty, staff, and students, while resolving a wide range of complex technical issues and independently determining appropriate solutions.
Demonstrates competency in selecting methods and techniques to obtain solutions. Processes telecommunications service requests; performs client-side system administration, maintenance, and support for the campus Mitel PBX, Microsoft Teams Phone, AWS Connect contact center platform, analog gateway infrastructure, and related telecommunications systems; and supports VOIP, digital, softphone, and analog technologies. The primary focus of the position is driving Teams Phone migrations and supporting enterprise telecommunications modernization initiatives.
The successful candidate will possess strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, experience improving operational processes and workflows, and the ability to provide technical leadership, project support, design consultation, and vendor coordination. The position is also responsible for maintaining technical documentation, inventory records, and accurate telecommunications billing.
Required:
- Demonstrated thorough knowledge of professional telecommunications and network concepts necessary to resolve issues using established parameters, creativity and independent judgment, escalating as necessary.
- Thorough understanding of various telecommunication and network hardware platforms, network related protocols and software including understanding of OSI layer 3 protocols at a basic level and layer 2 protocols at a complex level and related technical standards critical to the operation of interconnected networks.
- Experience administering and maintaining Microsoft Teams Phone, including Direct Routing, Auto Attendants, Call Queues, Emergency Calling.
- In-depth experience with telecommunication and network diagnostic and performance management tools and software used to analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve problems with systems and infrastructure.
