Position: Senior Counsel – Litigation, Employment, and Compliance

At TCL North America, we operate at the intersection of innovation, global scale, and fast-moving consumer markets. As a growing multinational organization, we rely on strong legal partnership to help our teams move quickly, responsibly, and with confidence.

We are seeking a Senior Counsel to report directly to the General Counsel, North America, and serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and cross-functional business teams. This role provides practical, business-minded legal guidance across a broad range of matters, with a primary focus on employment law, litigation management, and company-wide compliance. The ideal candidate is highly collaborative, comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment, and motivated by supporting the business with clear, actionable legal solutions.

While experience across all areas is not required, we are open to developing the right individual in areas where depth may still be growing.

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Advise on compliance, litigation avoidance, employment, privacy, cybersecurity, consumer protection, and marketing laws, ensuring compliance across the company.
  • Ensure company-wide compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations and interpret, draft, and administer guidance on a wide range of compliance matters.
  • Manage all litigation and claims, including employment defense, general liability, personal injury, and contractual disputes.
  • Provide timely, comprehensive legal counsel and guidance on labor and employment issues, particularly regarding California employment law compliance and assist in the drafting, revising, and reviewing of HR policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Keep senior management and Human Resources informed of significant labor and employment decisions, new legislation, and regulatory changes affecting the company's operations and policies and provide training to the company on human resources related issues.
  • Handle internal investigations, respond to employment-related claims, demand letters, and administrative complaints.
  • Oversee import and export compliance, ensuring adherence to U.S. and international trade laws, sanctions, and customs regulations.
  • Advise on tariff impacts and trade policy developments, collaborating with supply chain, logistics, and finance teams.
  • Advise and oversee various immigration matters as needed.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Partner with the various business teams to anticipate legal risks, manage exposure, and proactively resolve issues.
  • Develop and implement legal strategies that support growth, protect company assets, and align with business objectives.
  • Manage the company's insurance programs, evaluate coverage, and support claims management for optimal protection and cost-effectiveness.
  • High ethical standards and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and integrity.
  • Support audits, investigations, and regulatory inquiries, ensuring timely and effective responses.
  • Manage outside counsel and collaborate with cross-border legal teams as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualification/Requirements:

  • J.D. (or foreign equivalent) with active membership in the California State Bar (or ability to register as in-house counsel).
  • 3+ years of combined law firm and/or in-house legal experience, with a preference for candidates from a top-tier law school and a sophisticated legal practice.
  • Experience in human resources, compliance, data privacy, and litigation.
  • Will need to be willing to work in-office in Irvine five (5) days per week.
  • Strong ability to work independently and provide timely, actionable advice in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve with a business-friendly, solutions-oriented approach.
  • Strategic thinker with strong commercial awareness and practical application of legal expertise.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines.
  • A globally minded individual with the ability to travel and an appreciation for different cultures.
  • Knowledge and experience working with/for a large, multinational company preferred.
