Far West Industries is a privately-owned real estate development and homebuilding company based in the Orange County airport area. The Associate General Counsel will work with the attorneys and paralegals of the Legal Department, report directly to the Vice President/General Counsel, and be responsible for proactively supporting Far West Industries’ real estate development and homebuilding activities, joint ventures, and its other family office entities, along with providing support to the secured commercial bridge lending business of its affiliate GF Capital, a California licensed finance lender.
What you will do
- Draft, review, and participate in the negotiation of a variety of real estate transactional documents including purchase and sale agreements, construction contracts, leases, corporate formation, and other real estate documents.
- Provide transactional support and advice in the structuring, negotiation, due diligence, document preparation, and closing of secured loans, mezzanine loans, and other types of financings, both as a lender and as a borrower, including title insurance review.
- Provide transactional support and advice in the structuring, negotiation, and closing of real estate acquisitions and dispositions, including Section 1031 exchange transactions.
- Work with and manage outside counsel representing the company on a wide range of transactions and litigation.
- Support other attorneys, paralegals, and coworkers across the organization.
- Take part in additional responsibilities, as assigned, in support of the corporate, legal, and business functions of the organization.
About you
- Juris Doctor degree
- Member of the California bar in good standing
- At least 3+ years of law firm or in-house legal department experience with real estate and lending transactions.
- Experience reviewing loan documents, due diligence materials, corporate documents, leases, purchase and sale agreements, and title reports.
- Knowledge of real estate and lending laws.
- Ability to efficiently and timely analyze complex contracts and transactions, propose creative and practical solutions, and demonstrate great judgment, even in ambiguous situations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with professional and articulate demeanor, to effectively interact and build rapport with those inside and outside the organization.
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects at once in a fast-paced environment, follow through, and effectively meet deadlines.
- Strong computer skills required, particularly in Microsoft Word and Excel.
The starting salary for this role will be determined by the qualifications and credentials of the candidate. We also offer discretionary bonuses and comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) plan with guaranteed company contributions.
The starting salary range for this position is $100,000 - $150,000/yr.
