Sets up and performs mechanical, visual, and first article inspection of machined parts, castings, forgings, gears, complex precision parts and complex precision electro-mechanical assemblies to determine precise conformance to drawings and specifications. Performs and verifies compliance to acceptance test procedures. Must be able to work from complex blueprints, inspection specifications and verbal or written instructions with minimal supervision. Must have good working knowledge of military and commercial specifications, particularly ASME Y14.5M (dimensioning and tolerancing), non-destructive test methods and trigonometric equations.
Responsibilities- Mechanical, visual, and first article inspection of machined parts, castings, forgings, gears, precision parts and complex precision electro-mechanical assemblies.
- Performs and/or verifies compliance to, acceptance test procedures.
- Performs final inspection to verify compliance with company and/or customer specifications.
- Must use standard inspection measuring equipment and make proper inspection setups from drawings, specifications, and inspection instructions with minimal supervision.
- Capable of reviewing and interpreting vendor material and process certifications for compliance.
- Able to perform self-directed source inspection.
- Light housekeeping in inspection department, keeping inspection equipment and work stations clean.
- Performing such duties as filing and copying, and other tasks as assigned.
- This role requires access to export controlled technical data. Consistent with 22 C.F.R. 120.15, candidates must be 'U.S. Persons' (e.g., U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident).
- High School Diploma or GED and One year certificate from college or technical school or equivalent training. 5+ years' experience in mechanical inspection or related experience and/or equivalent training.
- Requires working knowledge of military and commercial specifications for materials (aluminum/steel), protective finishing, heat treating, non-destructive testing, with main focus on ASME Y14.5M (dimensioning and tolerancing), ANSI/ASQC Z1.4 (sampling procedures and tables for inspection by attributes), MIL-STD-100 (engineering drawing practices) and ANSI/NCSL Z540-1 (calibration systems requirements), ANSI B92.1 (involute splines and inspection), ANSI/AGMA 2000 (gear classification and inspection handbook), FED-STD-H28 (screw thread standards), AS9100 or ISO 9001 Quality System inspection requirements.
Well versed with standard inspection measuring equipment and operation of CMM (3 axis measuring machine). Experience in Military/Aerospace Industry is a must. Machine shop experience preferred. ASQ Mechanical Inspector professional certification preferred. - IBM PC basic knowledge, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, QC 5000 software for Starrett CMM or similar.
- IBM PC. CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine). Equipment such as Telephone, Scientific calculator, Fax, Copier, Hardness tester, Optical comparator, Profilometer, Sine plate, Calipers and micrometers, Height gages, Gage blocks, Precision measuring pins, Gear wires, Spline and thread gages, Dial indicators, Multi meter. Company van, Pallet jack, Instron Tensile test machine or similar.
- Physical requirements:
ability to frequently or constantly exert up to 20 pounds of force and occasionally up to 50 pounds; occasionally move objects of 100 pounds or more with assistance; specific vision abilities; hearing and speaking ability; frequent sitting and occasional standing, stooping, reaching or crouching; extended hours and overtime may be required; travel occasionally required. - The noise level is usually moderate. Normal office/inspection lab environment (air-conditioned); some work in shop area (non-air-conditioned).
