R&D Machinist (Machinist III) - Peripheral Vascular Division

The R&D Machinist III plays a critical role in supporting Stryker's IVS product development and engineering teams by producing high-precision components, prototypes, and test fixtures. This position is responsible for setting up and operating a broad range of manual machine tools, interpreting engineering drawings, planning machining processes, and ensuring all parts meet strict dimensional and quality requirements. Success in this role requires extensive hands-on machining experience, strong problem-solving skills, good judgment within established procedures, and the ability to mentor junior machinists while maintaining a safe, efficient, and well-organized shop environment.


What You Will Do

Key Responsibilities:

• Set up and operate manual machine tools-including lathes, mills, drill presses, and grinders-to produce precision R&D components and prototypes.
• Interpret engineering drawings, sketches, and specifications to plan machining sequences and select appropriate tools, materials, and fixtures.
• Perform specialized or non-standard machining operations required for prototype and experimental fabrication, adjusting processes to maintain accuracy and quality.
• Determine and apply correct speeds, feeds, and machining parameters based on materials, tooling, and tolerance requirements.
• Inspect parts using precision measurement instruments (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators) to ensure all components meet dimensional and engineering specifications.
• Conduct routine maintenance on manual machine tools, troubleshoot equipment or tooling issues, and maintain cutting tools as needed.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized work environment while following all established shop safety procedures.
• Document machining steps and deviations, communicate effectively with engineers and project teams, and guide junior machinists when required.

What you need

Required

• High school Diploma or GED
• 2 years of related machining experience

Preferred

• 3-5 years preferred - CNC
• Blueprint reading, measuring tools - calipers, micrometers, gauges

34.80/hr per hour plus bonus eligible + benefits.
