Manufacturing Engineer
Summary
Develops CNC programs for production machines, using Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software (Master
CAM, Applicon Bravo). Administers the distribution of programs to machines and monitors their use. Writes set-up and work instructions for manufacturing personnel. Assists in Manufacturing Engineering projects, as assigned.

- Analyzes design data in the form of drawings and CAD files to determine manufacturing sequence on individual machine tools; selects cutting tools, machine feed and speed rates.
- Using CAM software, develops the set of machine instructions for each specific machine tool to generate the tool path and cutting conditions for the part it will produce. Observes operation of the program in the machine and incorporates changes and improvements as required.
- Writes set-up instructions to be used by the operator in loading the program and setting up tooling for the part.
- Sets up and administers operation of the Direct Numeric Control (DNC) system for all production machines. Trains operators in the use of the system. Develops and maintains configuration control of programs. Reviews changes and approves updates to programs. Works with IT department in keeping the system updated and current.
Job Duties
- Consults with operators, supervisors and manufacturing engineers to improve software, machining processes, tooling and set-up time, etc.
- Performs manufacturing engineering projects as may be assigned, including but not limited to process improvement; cycle time studies, tooling and fixture design.

Education and/or ExperienceHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED), or equivalent combination of education and experience, plus college-level training in machine processes and CNC machine programming. Minimum 10 years experience operating and programming CNC machine tools. Working knowledge of programming languages and software.
Language SkillsMust be able to read and interpret engineering requirements, reference tables, specifications, standards, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
Mathematical SkillsRequires excellent math ability. Ability to apply concepts such as plane and solid geometry and trigonometry to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability- Ability to visualize machining processes from drawings, sketches and CAD models.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to solve problems.
