Location: Irvine, CA 92618
Duration: 6+ Months (Possible extension)
Shift: 1st Shift (6 AM - 2:30 PM)
Summary:
Seeking an experienced Senior Toolmaker to design and fabricate complex cutting/form tools, dies, fixtures, and test equipment. The role requires working independently with minimal guidance, contributing to lean initiatives, and collaborating in a team environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate tool room equipment, including CNC and conventional grinders, maintaining tight tolerances.
- Select materials and tooling; perform complex machine setups and improvisations.
- Inspect finished tools using precision instruments (gages, micrometers, calipers, CMM).
- Maintain equipment cleanliness, accuracy, and calibration.
- Troubleshoot machining issues and suggest improvements in tooling and manufacturing methods.
- Lead or contribute to lean productivity initiatives.
- Mentor and train junior team members.
- Adhere to safety protocols and maintain orderly work areas.
- 7+ years in toolmaking or related machining experience in a high-tech manufacturing environment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
- Proficient in reading blueprints, complex drawings, and engineering specs.
- Expertise in advanced shop math, including trigonometry, and cutting tool geometry.
- Skilled with precision measuring instruments and inspection equipment.
- Experience with oxy-acetylene brazing and silver soldering.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to interpret reports and use job-specific software and automated systems.
- Physical ability to walk, stand, sit for long periods, demonstrate manual dexterity, and lift up to 50 lbs.
