Position: Electro-Mechanical Assembler 3 - Defense Systems Division

Position Summary

Works under general supervision and is responsible for work output. Performs medium to heavy electronic and electromechanical assembly and subassembly work. Semi‑repetitive to repetitive‑type work. May make simple decisions but generally follows well‑established precedents. Also handles other mechanical work to meet company and departmental objectives. Requires advanced understanding of ESD controls, soldering, epoxy mixing, bonding, assembly and packaging techniques, and handling of electromechanical assemblies.

Ensures a safe work environment with a goal of zero accidents.

Responsibilities

Good understanding of ESD controls, resistance welding, working under microscopes, soldering, epoxy mixing, bonding, assembly and packaging techniques, and handling of classified assemblies.

  • Some mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficient microelectronic assembly skills.
  • Proficient cable harness and PCB assembly.
  • Proficient mechanical assembly of small parts and good understanding of torque requirements and calibration.
  • Proficient at interpreting blueprints and adhering to instructions.
  • Proficient high voltage potting and high voltage testing skills.
  • Certified to IPC Specialist and J‑STD‑001.
  • Proficient at identifying and troubleshooting faulty components.
  • Maintains a consistent standard of work and performance to comply with Quality Assurance regulations.
  • Respects contractual deadlines (Turn Around Time).
  • May be assigned to assist other departments.
  • Emphasizes safety and cleanliness by maintaining organized workstations and shadow boards, verifying that appropriate safety equipment is used properly.
  • May perform other related responsibilities.
  • Ensures all equipment is calibrated in accordance with calibration schedule.
  • Ensures all chemicals are within expiration limits.
  • Participates in Kaizen events and TIBS for continuous improvement.
  • Ability to read blueprints, job travelers and weld schedules.
Job Specifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required for the position.

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Six (6) or more years of related electronics assembly experience. J‑STD‑001 Certification preferred.
  • U.S. Citizen (no dual citizenship).
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization. Ability to communicate in English.
  • Mathematical proficiency: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division of two‑digit numbers and basic operations involving American currency, weight, volume and distance.
  • Application of common sense to carry out detailed, but straightforward written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Collaborates effectively with colleagues, customers and others, sharing ideas constructively. Listens objectively and considers suggestions from others, keeps commitments, informs others of progress, addresses issues constructively, addresses others by name or title respectfully, respects diversity.
  • Interaction with other departments such as Quality, Production Control and Engineering. Requires strong cooperative teamwork and ability to work independently.
  • Basic computer skills to log into work orders, access time cards and log work orders for special processes.
  • Operates winding/braiding machinery, torque wrenches, digital multimeters, up to 12kV hipot, solder irons, cutters, wire strippers, crimpers, heat guns, common hand tools and microscope use.
  • Physical demands: stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, pound or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities: close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, adjustment of focus.
  • Work environment: low noise level, subject to air conditioning / heating.
