R&D Staff Engineer – Electrophysiology

Job SummaryThe Staff R&D Engineer will design, develop, and verify mechanical and electrical solutions for advanced energy catheters and accessories in the Electrophysiology business. Responsibilities include design, prototyping, troubleshooting, documentation, and cross‑functional collaboration to bring products from concept to commercialization.
Responsibilities- Work in a small cross‑functional project team to design, develop, and verify new catheters/cables.
- Develop, implement, test, and document new solutions, processes, and designs according to corporate standards.
- Perform hands‑on assembly and testing of devices to support proof of concept, design development, pre‑clinical, and V&V activities.
- Investigate and determine root cause of emerging design or manufacturing defects or failures.
- Develop product concepts and assess with physicians and healthcare staff; define feature set, use conditions, design requirements, and complete trade‑off analysis.
- Create design and manufacturing documentation: inspection procedures, assembly instructions, test methods, purchase specifications, BOMs, part and assembly drawings, with proper change‑control procedures.
- Establish individual goals consistent with overall project goals.
- Perform other duties as required to support the company’s overall strategy and goals.
- 6‑8 years of relevant experience;
Bachelor’s degree (minimum) and 4‑6 years with a Master’s preferred. - Ability to work within cross‑functional R&D teams.
- Experience with FDA QSR 21 CFR Part 820, ISO 13485 and related standards.
- Track record of originating novel concepts and rapidly converting ideas into functional prototypes.
- Experience operating in ambiguous environments, identifying key risks, and prioritizing experiments.
- Capable of defining early product architecture and translating feasibility prototypes into scalable development programs.
- Can decide what to prototype versus analyze, balancing speed, risk, and scalability.
- Expertise in structured problem‑solving and rapid design iteration cycles (build‑test‑learn).
- Hands‑on experience with rapid prototyping methods: 3D printing, plastics processing, metal fabrication, and bench‑level assembly.
- Proficiency in CAD‑based mechanical design;
Solid Works preferred. - Comprehensive product development lifecycle experience: proof‑of‑concept, design, implementation, debug, verification, qualification, and transfer.
- High autonomy and independent problem‑solving.
- Strong written and oral communication across all levels.
- Experience with energy delivery devices.
- Knowledge of mechanical engineering and product development tools.
- Business case modeling, coaching, critical thinking, design thinking, feasibility studies, project management methodology, and technical writing.
- Minimum: BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline; equivalent work experience acceptable.
$109,000 – $174,800
Benefits- Vacation: 120 hours per calendar year.
- Sick time: 40 hours per calendar year (48 hours in Colorado, 56 hours in Washington).
- Holiday pay, including floating holidays: 13 days per calendar year.
- Work, personal and family time: up to 40 hours per calendar year.
- Parental leave: 480 hours within one year of birth/adoption/foster care of a child.
- Bereavement leave: 240 hours for immediate family; 40 hours for extended family per calendar year.
