Position: Nurse Practitioner II (Neuro Critical Care / Neurology) - Irvine

Your Role on the Team

The position of Nurse Practitioner II in the Department of Neurology requires a highly competent, independent yet team-oriented individual who will be immersed in the Neurology’s Cerebrovascular and Neuro-Hospitalist Division. Under the supervision of an Attending Faculty and guided by the applicable policies and procedures, the Nurse Practitioner will participate in the comprehensive care of patients in the ambulatory or inpatient settings and provide multi-disciplinary care coordination, treatment, education, monitoring, and communication with patients and referring physicians.

A Nurse Practitioner is an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) who possesses the advanced education, knowledge, clinical skills and experience necessary to provide advanced nursing care in their area of specialization. The APP will be seeing a population of patients in a fast‑paced outpatient clinical environment and will also work with the family of the patient to ensure that aftercare is appropriate.

The location is the Irvine Hospital site.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform functions as appropriate to the scope of practice, including management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and surgical procedures per approved standardized procedures. Familiarity with state statutes for licensure is required.
  • Provide patient care across age groups based on educational preparation and at all health‑licensed settings and affiliates.
  • Maintain standards of care for the specified patient population, demonstrating self‑direction and accountability for quality of care and role development across all health locations and affiliates.
  • Credential and obtain privileges through Medical Staff prior to the first working day.
  • Accountable to, evaluated by, and receive feedback from the supervising/collaborating physician, physician designee(s) in the same clinical specialty, or the Administrative Manager.
What It Takes to be Successful Required
  • Obtain UCIMC Allied Health Professional Privileges prior to hire.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships across the program and UCI Health System.
  • Exercise diplomacy and flexibility when interacting with physicians, nurses, other paramedical personnel, administrators, emergency and law enforcement officers.
  • Demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
  • Communicate medical information clearly to a broad variety of people, both in person and over the telephone.
  • Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Prepare clear medical reports, laboratory data and progress notes. Maintain an appropriate work pace.
  • Possess the skills, knowledge, and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties.
  • Successfully complete an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and possess educational training or experience that supports the setting and patient population.
  • Graduate of an accredited Master’s Degree program as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Current, active, unrestricted California Registered Nurse license.
  • Current, active, unrestricted California Nurse Practitioner license.
  • NP National Board Certification.
  • Current, active, unrestricted physician‑appointed and DEA registration.
  • Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
  • Adult‑Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Board Certified.
  • At least 1–2 years of Neurology experience as an NP.
Preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a fast‑paced outpatient setting with elderly patients and families.
