Clinical Nurse II; Obs- ACC Irvine PACU Nights

Position Summary

The PACU Observation nurse will collaborate with the Dept. of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Care and other surgical and interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement a plan of care for the patients assigned to the unit. The role involves performing professional nursing duties that incorporate the psychomotor and age‑appropriate cognitive skills of the patient and family, assessing, planning, intervening and advocating for the patient on an ongoing basis throughout the pre‑ and post‑surgical period.

The nurse will evaluate patient outcomes, effectiveness of the plan of care, and readiness for discharge from PACU Observation, and will act as a role model and mentor to students and nurses new to the unit. The nurse may also function as a Patient Care Coordinator as requested by the supervisor or manager.

• Minimum of 2 years of current perioperative, med‑surg/tele, or ED experience
• Current PALS certification, or to be obtained within 90 days of employment
• All external candidates must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing
• Ability to work variable shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
• Ability to maintain flexibility and work well in a fast‑paced, constantly changing environment
• Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System

• Prior experience in a Level I Trauma Center and/or Academic Medical Center
• Knowledge of Title 22 and Joint Commission requirements
• Greater than two years of demonstrated nursing experience in a perioperative, medical‑surgical/telemetry unit or Emergency Department
• Demonstrated experience working in a Level I Trauma Center
• Current CPAN, CAPA, CCRN certifications
• Bilingual skills to communicate effectively with patients and families
