Role on the Team Position Summary
The Staff Nurse Leader oversees clinical functions related to the delivery of patient care, the quality of nursing practice, and the standards of care for the assigned shift. This role coordinates patient care activities by directing staff and unit functions, maintaining clinical nursing practice skills, and providing patient‑centered advocacy. The leader also performs break relief coverage, troubleshoots and resolves issues as they arise, and serves as a role model and clinical resource to staff and patients.
Required Qualifications- Demonstrated leadership skills based on a minimum of four leadership roles or responsibilities in the last three years (e.g., project team leadership, advanced leadership degree, Relief PCC, preceptor, practice council leadership, house supervisor, membership in a professional development program, quality council or PI team, skin prevalence nurse, clinical instructor, EPIC Superuser).
- Minimum five years of recent acute‑care RN experience, including at least four years in a step‑down or ICU level of care environment.
- Complete understanding of patient classification systems and staffing requirements for the patient population.
- All external candidates must hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
- Ability to work variable shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- ANCC‑recognized RN certification that is uniquely applicable to this specific unit (general certifications such as WCC are not acceptable).
- Understanding of applicable regulatory requirements.
- Bilingual skills to communicate effectively with patients and families.
