Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform calibration work with little to no supervision
- Train, advise, and lead lower-level technicians
- Assist in production management, training, automation and leadership of key processes within the lab
- Partner with lab management on process improvement and strategic initiatives
- Conduct independent research when necessary
- Coordinate and manage daily workloads without direction from manager
- Identify and utilize appropriate measurement techniques
- Maintain calibration standards
- Understand and apply uncertainties to measurements made
- Be able to read and interpret labs’ scopes of accreditation
- Work effectively with lab support staff
- Working knowledge and competency in eight disciplines and expert in three disciplines preferred
- Perform calibrations within a laboratory or customer onsite setting
- Work at customer on-sites with little to no direction
- Fulfill duties safely under working conditions, in keeping with Company requirements and standards
- Other duties as assigned
- Travel requirement: up to 50% of work schedule
Primary Objectives
- Call upon high-level skills, techniques, and processes to calibrate, troubleshoot, and adjust a high volume of high-level equipment with few errors
- Coordinate work schedule for the lab
- Prepare detailed analysis of calibration processes and uncertainties
- Develop and implement process improvements
- Develop lower-level technicians
- Deliver on Transcat’s Quality Policy (QAC-F01-001)
- Demonstrate team lead skills and responsibilities
- Develop skills necessary to advance in leadership roles in Transcat
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Qualifications
- Successful completion of assigned training materials through on-the-job training, online content, LMS, and classroom led instruction
- Elite interpersonal and customer service skills
- Strong management skills and leadership potential
- Excellent attention to detail
- Self-motivated learner with the ability to learn new skills related to calibration and calibration processes
- Ability to take direction and learn from feedback
- Ability to communicate well with supervisor, solve problems effectively, and work both independently and as part of a team
- 3+ years driving experience with a valid driver’s license
Education and Experience
Required:
- Associates degree from college or technical school, or 6+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience working within ISO 17025 and exposure responding to assessment bodies in the ISO 17025 accreditation. Advanced understanding of creating, maintaining, and editing uncertainty budgets.
Preferred:
- Six+ years of commercial calibration experience
- CCT or CMT certification
- Extensive statistical background
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office computer software including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Advanced organizational and time management skills
- Completion of appropriate leadership or management coursework
- Experience in PMEL, PME, TMDE, Metrology, Calibration, ASQ CCT, METCAL, GPETE, Electronics, GCAMS, or Avionics
