Under direct supervision, you will apply professional software concepts and internal policies to small projects or portions of projects. The role involves resolving routine programming problems, supporting web‑based applications, databases, and internal systems that aid the Center's research and administrative operations. Responsibilities are divided between the UC Irvine Stem Cell Research Center (SCRC) and the Center for Biomedical Informatics (CBMI).
SCRC (25%) focuses on site maintenance, development, database management, and day‑to‑day application programming to ensure secure, accurate, user‑friendly systems for research operations and external communications.
CBMI (25%) requires expertise in SQL, controlled health vocabularies (ICD, CPT, SNOMED‑CT), and common data models such as OMOP. This portion may be performed remotely under the supervision of Dr. Kai Zheng. The position is part‑time (49%) and is a limited appointment.
What It Takes to be SuccessfulRequired:
- Knowledge of software design, development, modification, and implementation, including object‑oriented programming concepts.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to convey technical information to both technical and non‑technical personnel at various organizational levels.
- Self‑motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team, and must learn effectively and meet deadlines.
- Expert knowledge in SQL.
- Knowledge of controlled health vocabularies such as ICD, CPT, and SNOMED‑CT.
- Experience with data mapping and validation.
- Experience with common data models such as OMOP.
- Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent experience and training.
