The core discipline of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry is the understanding of the molecular mechanisms that underline all fundamental biological processes. To that end the faculty of the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry represent diverse research interests that include structure and synthesis of proteins and nucleic acids, gene organization and regulation, cell signaling, immunology and host pathogen interactions, biochemical genetics, cell and developmental biology, microbiology and virology.

The Evans Laboratory studies the molecular evolution and functional biology of flaviviruses and their hosts. Research focuses on virus-host interactions, innate immune antagonism, viral evolution, reverse genetics, and high-throughput functional genomics. The Staff Research Associate III will participate in experimental studies using molecular cloning, mammalian cell culture, virology, and related techniques while helping establish and maintain a newly relocated research laboratory at UC Irvine.

  Incumbents are expected to possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the positions. These skills, knowledge, and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of extensive study and experience.
• Several years of progressively responsible research laboratory experience in molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, or related disciplines.
• Experience with mammalian cell culture.
• Experience with transfection, reporter assays, or viral infection experiments.
• Experience with molecular biology techniques including PCR, DNA cloning, bacterial transformation, plasmid preparation, and nucleic acid analysis.
• Experience maintaining accurate laboratory records and following established protocols.
• Experience with laboratory inventory management, ordering, and equipment maintenance.

Preferred:

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $71,476.53- $ (Annual).
