Position description

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the UC Irvine School of Medicine anticipates occasional openings for Postdoctoral Scholars/Fellows. The Postdoc conducts research under the general oversight of a faculty mentor in preparation for a career position in academia, industry, government, or the nonprofit sector. Appointments are temporary positions with fixed end dates intended to provide a full-time program of advanced academic preparation and research training.

The incumbent will be expected to perform various lab tasks and work on current research projects related to ophthalmology disease and visual sciences and/or advancements in ophthalmology and visual sciences technology. A doctoral degree (e.g., Ph.D., M.D. or M.D./Ph.D) or the foreign equivalent is required at the time of hire.

Positions are dependent on extramural funding. Postdoc positions are occasionally available throughout the year in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences.

All months of prior postdoc service will be counted towards the placement of the Postdoctoral Scholar at their initial experience level. The total service as a postdoctoral scholar cannot exceed five years. This includes prior postdoctoral service at other institutions (both domestic and foreign).
