Position descriptionThe Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for full‑time positions in the Postdoctoral Scholar Series to investigate the emerging role of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in the regulation of uterine and placental hemodynamics. The lab currently focuses on advancing the understanding of the physiological role of augmented H2S signaling in uterine and placental angiogenesis and vasodilation in pregnancy, whether impaired H2S signaling contributes to pre‑eclampsia, and whether protein sulfhydration serves as the primary signaling route for H2S to elicit its proangiogenic vasodilatory effects in the uterine and placental circulations.
Ideal candidates should be self‑motivated and have earned a doctorate in biomedical sciences within the past two years. Candidates with a strong understanding of female reproductive biology and endocrinology are strongly encouraged to apply. Previous experience with perinatal biology is preferred but not required. Successful candidates will have opportunities to work with human uterine artery and placentas and novel primary vascular cell models from these tissues and to learn a variety of perinatal vascular biology research skills such as functional proteomics to analyze protein sulfhydration in potassium channels and angiogenic signaling pathways regulating uterine and placental vascular sequelae in normal pregnancy and preeclampsia.
Specific research projects will depend on the successful candidates' interests, background, and training goals for career development.
