Overview
Position:
Associate Project Scientist, affiliated with the Afghanistan Human Rights Project within the UCI School of Law International Justice Clinic. The role makes significant and creative contributions to research or creative projects in an academic discipline and/or may engage in University and public service.
- Lead and supervise students; collaborate with law and other faculty.
- Research, monitor, and report on human rights abuses by Afghanistan's de facto authorities in national, multilateral, and UN forums, with focus on media environment and digital threats.
- Collaborate with international stakeholders, including the UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in Afghanistan and relevant treaty bodies.
- Provide a platform for Afghan human rights defenders and journalists to voice concerns and share updates.
- Document rights violations through interviews and desk research; inform global stakeholders to support investigations, accountability, and sanctions.
- Conduct analysis involving Afghan language sources; ensure ongoing engagement with Afghan defenders and journalists; apply international law and rule-of-law analysis, particularly related to Afghanistan.
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
LLM or J.D. degree or foreign equivalent in Law or related field.
