Job Description
WSP is searching for a Senior Biologist to provide subject‑matter technical support and leadership for the collection, identification, compilation, and analysis of observational and spatial data concerning a variety of vegetation, wetland, wildlife, marine, terrestrial, botanical, and avian species. The role will guide multi‑site environmental work and permitting projects, ensuring biological elements are conveyed and acted upon at a high level of quality and compliance.
The senior biologist will also assist in identifying key clients and opportunities, prepare proposals for small to medium projects, and participate in large RFP submittals.
- Provide oversight of data collection and compilation of observational and spatial data for a variety of species, as well as biological and environmental data from air, soil, water, sludge, and other matrices.
- Prepare, review, and complete biological survey reports, data entry, impact assessment, and permitting activities (e.g., ESA, Clean Water Act, CEQA, NEPA).
- Ensure technical reports and presentations explain research, findings, and recommendations to address, prevent, control, or restore biological challenges.
- Perform professional biology work, investigations, inspections, and environmental studies to verify site characteristics and plan for environmental needs.
- Create data visualizations such as tables, charts, models, and cross‑sections for interpretation and presentation of complex data.
- Develop comprehensive technical reports and presentations explaining research findings for large‑scale biological problems.
- Oversee and monitor cross‑functional teams on project work, permitting strategy, impact assessments, and regulatory strategy, including budgets, hours, and task completion.
- Participate in the application process for environmental permits and related corrective strategies.
- Provide high‑level oversight for research, fieldwork, and laboratory work, including data interpretation and modeling.
- Coordinate with clients, resource agencies, and technical staff, offering strategic advice and expertise.
- Build a client base and identify business development opportunities through proposal writing and submissions.
- Mentor staff for growth and professional development.
- Collaborate with professionals from various disciplines to provide solutions for clients.
- Exercise responsible decision‑making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
- Perform additional duties as required by business needs.
– Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related life science field.
- 10+ years of experience as a biologist completing surveys (vegetation, wetlands, wildlife, avian, marine), fieldwork, habitat assessments, wetland delineations, and/or construction monitoring.
- Highly proficient in biology skills for specific ecosystems, habitats, and species.
- Extensive knowledge of environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping.
- Technical competence leading environmental permitting within business sectors such as commercial, infrastructure, or energy.
- Experience conducting Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments per ASTM guidelines.
- Ability to work independently and lead mid‑level to senior team members with strict QA/QC.
- Experience reviewing documents and preparing complex technical deliverables.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to interact at all organizational levels.
- Proficiency with technical and business writing, office automation, and communication tools.
- Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills for data analysis and solution development.
- Track record of workplace safety and compliance with health, safety, and harassment policies.
- Flexible schedule to meet business needs and adapt to change in a pressured environment.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Master’s Degree.
- Professional licensure or certification.
- 40‑Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) preferred.
- Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
- Resource agency consultation experience required.

CompensationExpected Salary: $116,000 – $140,900.
