Research Scientist
Position Overview
Salary range: $55,000 – $194,800. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment.

Specialist positions are occasionally available throughout the year in the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science at the University of California, Irvine. These positions are typically grant‑funded under the sponsorship of various faculty members. The ideal candidate should be self‑driven, motivated, with biomedical or translational research experience strongly preferred. Positions are dependent upon extramural funding. Rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
Appointments are based on performance and availability of funding.
Rank and requirements:
- Junior Specialist – Baccalaureate degree (or equivalent research experience).
- Assistant Specialist – MS or five years of experience.
- Associate Specialist – MS or five to ten years of experience.
- Specialist – Terminal degree (PhD/MD) or ten or more years of experience.
- Junior Specialist:
Baccalaureate degree (or equivalent research experience). - Assistant Specialist:
Master’s degree (or equivalent) or five years of experience. - Associate Specialist:
Master’s degree (or equivalent) or five to ten years of experience, and record of academic accomplishments including published research. - Specialist:
Terminal degree (PhD/MD) or ten or more years of experience, significant record of academic accomplishments, professional recognition, and record of university/public service.
