Salary range: $66,737 – $80,034 (see Postdoc Scholar Salary Scale). Effective 10/1/26: $71,491 – $85,736.

The Qavi Laboratory at UCI seeks applications for Postdoctoral Scholars from doctoral (PhD, MD, or foreign equivalent) candidates with strong laboratory research backgrounds and specialized training. Applicants must either currently possess the required degree or be working toward acquiring it.

The Qavi Lab is developing the next‑generation diagnostics for a variety of pathogens and diseases. Relevant skills that will receive preference include:

• lasers, LEDS, optical system hardware
• clean‑room fabrication, electronic circuit design, optical engineering
• signal processing, data analysis

The successful candidate will have a strong background in optics and device fabrication. Preference (not mandatory) will be given to those who have demonstrated high productivity during their doctoral studies with first author publications in respected journals.

The candidate must also demonstrate:

• excellent written and oral communication skills
• strong collaborative and interpersonal skills
• strong analytical and organizational skills
• ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams
• commitment to mentoring others as well as being mentored

Initial appointments are for a minimum of two years, with renewal based on performance and available support.

Basic qualifications mandatory at the time of application:

• Doctoral candidate (PhD, MD, or foreign equivalent).
• Must possess required degree at the time of application or be pursuing it.
