Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Promote a safe and secure environment at Hoag properties through a variety of methods and approaches. Use common sense and sound judgment to troubleshoot a wide range of security related issues, striving for effective and collaborative solutions that are consistent with company policy and the organization’s mission.
- Respond to a wide range of security related calls including suspicious activity, crimes in progress, unsafe situations, traffic or parking matters, and workplace violence.
- Audit serviceability of security cameras and other security technology, manage supplies, and enforce procedures related to contractor badge issuance; serve as a Security Dispatcher as needed.
- Conduct proactive patrols of Hoag properties and recognize and appropriately respond to unsafe or suspicious activity.
- Communicate effectively; be service-oriented and patient-focused.
- Receive training in de‑escalation, laws of arrest, use of reasonable force, physical intervention, proper investigations, and report writing.
- Possess strong character, humility, compassion, composure, diplomacy, maturity, and sound judgment.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1 year of healthcare experience in a security related position or 2 years of relevant or equivalent experience.
- Record free from any criminal convictions involving acts of moral turpitude, or excessive traffic violations.
- Prior military, law enforcement, code enforcement, customer service industry, or hospital security experience.
- PC 832 – Arrest, FEMA IC 200, HAZWOPER.
- Effective communication and de‑escalation techniques.
- Trauma‑Informed Care and cultural sensitivity.
- Workplace violence response, use of reasonable force, management of aggressive behavior, handcuffing techniques and use of restraints, and laws of arrest.
- Field investigations and report writing.
- Successfully complete a security officer classroom and field‑training orientation program covering customer service, effective communication, de‑escalation, trauma‑informed care, workplace violence response, use of reasonable force, aggressive behavior management, handcuffing, restraints, laws of arrest, field investigations, and report writing.
- Complete a minimum of 24 hours of in‑service annual training related to the role.
- Valid Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) Security Guard License.
- Valid California driver’s license.
- N/A.
- First Aid / CPR / AED.
- Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) Basic or Certified Advanced Healthcare Security Officer (CAHSO) Advanced.
