About the RoleThe Field Service Engineer I is a hands‑on electro‑mechanical service role responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing medical and industrial equipment at customer sites.
This position supports product installation, preventative maintenance, and corrective maintenance/repair services. The ideal candidate has practical experience servicing electro‑mechanical products, troubleshooting equipment to the FRU level, working with wiring harnesses and sensitive electronic components, and using service tools such as a digital multimeter, vacuum/pressure meter, frequency counter, or similar diagnostic equipment.
This is a field‑based technician role, not an IT help desk, desktop support, networking, or software‑only position. The right candidate must be comfortable traveling, working independently at customer sites, documenting service activity, and following service procedures accurately.
Key Responsibilities- Install, service, troubleshoot, and repair medical and industrial equipment at customer sites.
- Perform preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance repairs according to service requirements.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues to the FRU level.
- Diagnose electro‑mechanical failures involving wiring, connectors, harnesses, components, assemblies, and sensitive electronics.
- Use service tools and diagnostic equipment, including digital multimeters and other test equipment.
- Follow service manuals, work instructions, safety procedures, and customer‑specific requirements.
- Document service activity, findings, repairs, parts used, and next steps accurately.
- Communicate professionally with customers, internal teams, and service leadership.
- Travel as needed to support customer sites, including overnight travel.
- Maintain a professional field presence and protect Quest’s reputation for quality service.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 1 year of hands‑on technical, electro‑mechanical, repair, field service, or related equipment service experience.
- Experience troubleshooting equipment to the FRU level.
- Experience servicing electro‑mechanical products.
- Ability to work with complicated wiring harnesses and sensitive electronic components.
- Familiarity with common service tools, including a digital multimeter.
- Ability to read and follow service procedures, technical documentation, and work instructions.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting ability.
- Strong communication and customer‑service skills.
- Ability to travel up to 80% of the time.
- Must have reliable transportation and own vehicle available for work use.
- Ability to work independently in the field.
- Ability to complete required Human Performance Test.
- Comfortable with a full‑time, temp‑to‑hire employment structure.
- Experience with medical equipment, industrial equipment, diagnostic equipment, or technical field service.
- Experience with optical products.
- Experience using tools such as a vacuum/pressure meter, frequency counter, and digital multimeter.
- Command line or Power Shell familiarity.
- Experience supporting OEM equipment.
- Experience working in regulated, quality‑controlled, ISO, healthcare, or customer‑site environments.
- Military technical training or hands‑on technical trade experience.
