Service Center Technician I – Job Overview
Under immediate supervision, performs a variety of routine and semi-skilled duties to repair, service, and maintain firefighting tools, safety equipment, and other related fire department apparatus; receives, stores, and issues a variety of specialized fire and emergency supplies, materials, and equipment; and performs related duties as assigned.
Responsibilities- Repair and service tools and equipment used in the Service Center.
- Receive, store, and issue specialized fire and emergency supplies, materials, and equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections of firefighting apparatus and safety gear.
- Assist with inventory management in a computerized supply environment.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned by supervisory staff.
- Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
- Experience: One year of experience receiving, storing, issuing, stocking, and inventorying supplies and materials in a computerized supply environment and/or related mechanical maintenance and repair work.

Certifications:- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Class C driver’s license by time of appointment.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Class B driver’s license within six (6) months of appointment.
Must possess mobility and strength to work in a warehouse environment and in the field; ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects averaging a weight of 50 pounds or more with proper equipment. Requires frequent walking, bending, kneeling, squatting, and use of hand and power tools. Vision and color vision are necessary for inspection and operation of equipment.
Must wear and use the proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
Employees work in OCFA buildings, facilities, and in the field, exposed to loud noise, temperature extremes, inclement weather, road hazards, vibration, confined spaces, chemicals, mechanical and electrical hazards, dangerous substances, fumes, dust, and biological agents. Work may involve interacting with upset staff or the public and may require on-call duty, shift work, and unscheduled overtime during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Pre-Hire Requirements- Fingerprinting and background check.
- Reference check and DMV check.
- Licensure and certification verification.
- Oath of allegiance to the United States and the State of California.
- Proof of eligibility to work in the United States pursuant to the Immigration and Reform Control Act of 1986.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment medical exam and drug screen through the OCFA’s designated physician.
