General Description

Irving Ranch Water District is currently accepting applications for two (2) Facilities Services Technicians in the Facilities Services Department. Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis until a sufficient number of qualified applications have been received or until filled. The first review of applications is at 8:00 AM on July 16, 2026; the recruitment may close at any time after that deadline.

Position

Oversee and perform journey‑level building maintenance and construction work, including carpentry, painting, minor electrical, plumbing, lock repair, masonry, and related trades, at all District facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Perform journey‑level carpentry: design, fabricate, construct, finish, and install wooden structures such as walls, doors, and cabinets; install and repair locks, panic devices, roofing, and rough framing.
  • Perform journey‑level plumbing: skilled repairs on valves, piping, toilets, urinals, sinks, faucets, water lines, gas lines, sewer lines, roof drains, flush valves, and water heaters.
  • Perform journey‑level concrete construction: design, form, pour, and finish concrete; repair stops, walkways, pads, specialized concrete structures, and block walls.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and inspections in compliance with local and state code; advise supervisor of repair and replacement needs.
  • Review contracts related to assigned trade specialties and monitor contracted work.
  • Prepare work orders and complete inspection forms through the District’s Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Maintain tools in good working order; inventory supplies and equipment.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Comply with District work‑related safety practices and attend relevant safety training.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
  • Experience: Four (4) years of experience in carpentry, plumbing, and concrete work.
  • License/

    Certifications:

    Valid Class ‘C’ California Driver’s License is required;
    State Contractor’s License desirable.
  • Abilities:
    • Operate all woodworking tools, hand and power tools.
    • Safely use and maintain hand and power tools, equipment, and vehicles required for the work.
    • Maintain filing, record‑keeping, and tracking systems of work performed.
    • Perform accurate mathematical computations.
    • Understand, interpret, and apply all pertinent laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures.
    • Use tact, initiative, prudence, and judgment within general policy and procedural guidelines.
    • Organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow up on assignments.
    • Communicate clearly and concisely.
    • Establish, maintain, and foster positive working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
    • Effectively use computer systems and software applications relevant to work performed.
    • Operate heavy equipment, tools, and machinery; keep tools clean and orderly; report repair needs to supervisor.
    • Utilize advisory data and information such as blueprints, diagrams, code requirements, manuals, schedules, work orders, parts inventories, time sheets, safety manuals, and technical operating manuals.
  • Knowledge:
    • Current building codes.
    • Principles, practices, techniques, equipment, and tools required for installing, replacing, constructing, maintaining, and repairing equipment and facilities.
    • Principles of mathematics and their application to assigned work.
    • Procedures of record keeping.
    • Applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, and industry standards.
    • District and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
    • Techniques for providing a high level of customer service; effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and District staff.
    • Modern equipment and communication tools used for business functions and program, project, and task coordination, including computers and relevant software.
Physical Demands

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. routinely and up to 80 lbs. with assistance. Exert moderately heavy physical effort in moderate to heavy work, involving climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling. Operate equipment and machinery requiring complex and rapid adjustments. When working in an office environment, mobility to use standard office equipment and vision, hearing, and speech to communicate are required.
