Student Center & Event Services provides the campus community and its guests with a variety of services and venues for social, recreational, cultural, and educational pursuits and is the primary resource for individuals/groups interested in holding a meeting, seminar, summer conference program or other event at UC Irvine.

Under the general direction of the Building Maintenance & Engineering Manager, the Maintenance Mechanic serves as multi-trade maintenance mechanic supporting safe, reliable, and customer-focused operations of UC Irvine's Student Center and other facilities. Performs skilled work across electrical (up to 480V, 3-phase), HVAC (air handlers, fan coils, pneumatics, hydronic pumps, EMS scheduling), plumbing (install/repair; soldering to 2"), welding/fabrication, carpentry/drywall, painting/finishes, door hardware/access systems, and small equipment repair.

Exercises independent judgment in diagnosing issues, selecting methods and materials, and prioritizing work within established procedures, campus standards, codes, and safety practices. Provides lead direction to student staff and coordinates work plans, schedules, and service levels with the Manager.

• Previous experience in commercial ballast retrofit.
• Ability to operate a variety of power hand tool, and stationary power tools, such as bench grinders, drill presses, and table saws.
• Ability to remove and replace drywall, tape and fish walls, and repair plaster walls.
• Ability to texture walls and spray acoustic ceilings.
• Demonstrated ability to cut and replace window glass.
• Ability to repair/replace window blinds and window covering systems.
• Ability to repair/replace floor tile and carpet, and cove base.
• Demonstrated mechanical ability.
• Ability to do basic arithmetic calculations.
• Ability to make electrical and plumbing installations and repairs.
• Demonstrated ability in repairing building finishes, furniture and small equipment.
• Ability to work with little direct supervision.
• Ability to summarize in writing work performed.
• Ability to work well with staff and the general public.
• Ability to supervise the work of others/students.
• Ability to arc and wire feed weld.
• 1-3 years
  
  Experience in a broad range of skilled maintenance tasks.

• Required to hold a valid drivers license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.

• Prior knowledge working in an institutional or university setting.

Sunday, 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

From the start date until training is complete and the employee is prepared to independently perform the essential functions of the position, the schedule will be Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
